Hello,

Is it possible to infer whether a particular protein-coding transcript annotated for human in Ensembl is present in normal tissues or is only produced in a malignant (e. g., cancer) tissue/condition? I would need to select coding transcripts present in normal tissues for my analysis. Probably, I could do this using Human Protein Atlas, but if there is a way to do it within Ensembl, that would be great!

Thank you!

Emily Perry from Ensembl replied to me via the Ensembl helpdesk form:

"There is no labelling of normal vs tumour transcripts, and we have no doubt that there will be tumour-specific transcripts in the dataset. This could potentially be examined by comparing to public RNA-seq datasets from as many normal tissues as are available, and assuming that anything you do not find is tumour-specific."
