Google Summer of Code (GSoC) will be running again in 2020. It allows students to work remotely on open source coding projects and get paid by Google.
Applications for organisations to take part open in early January. We (Ensembl) will be applying again, after several years of successful student projects (Github with all past projects, blog about 2019 projects, blog about 2018 projects). If you are part of an organisation that produces open source code in bioinformatics, I strongly recommend applying to GSoC, as it gives you an opportunity to explore a side-project that may have gone by the wayside and gives your team experience in teaching and mentoring.
Mentor applications are now open and will be open until 5th February.
