I see in many bioinformatics position ads, the need for world-class bioinformatician. It would be good to know who qualifies as a world-class bioinformatician.
a world-class bioinformatician would give us some examples of such ad :P
Pierre Lindenbaum would likely qualify ;-)
I wonder if Perl coders do...
Of course, Perl bioinformaticians are qualified by default ;)

There are probably as many definitions as there are hiring committees.
I believe it means the person has worked (physically/remotely) in international teams/projects, but as pointed before, it depends on the committee's definition
I think it means the PI doesn't quite know what they need, but they want to sound like their work is cutting-edge.
This is true. In general, they throw kitchen sink requirements.
