Hi I was wondering if you could help me, I'm not really sure if this is the right place for this but the users here were very helpful with my last question so hopefully you can help me again, I'm a MSc bioinformatics student, and this question from a past paper is driving me round the bend and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. We haven't covered additive genetic models, and I can't seem to find out what the model is on google.
Using a basic genetic model the genetic effect can be modelled as follows: g(i) = a if the individual has genotype A1A1, d if the individual has genotype A1A2, and -a if the individual has genotype A2A2. Let the allele frequency of A1 be p.
(i) Assuming an additive genetic model, d=0, prove that the mean and variance of the genetic component are given by (p-q)a and 2pqa^2???? respectively where ? q = 1 - p
(ii)If d≠0, prove that the variance of the genetic component is then sum of an additive variance and a dominance variance.
Sorry if this is the wrong place for it. But I wasn't really sure where else to go :/ Like I said I'm just asking for some tips or to be pointed in the right direction if possible. Thanks :)
