The Baliga lab is seeking a software engineer to join our research team. The position will involve developing scientific software for visualization, data analysis and data management for applications in systems biology and the regulation of gene expression. Other responsibilities of the role include managing an open source software community, with websites, newsgroups and a yearly conference; and participating in writing project reports, proposals and scientific articles.

Qualifications: - The candidate should have solid experience with Java, SQL, web development with HTML/CSS/Javascript and familiarity with good software engineering practices, such as unit testing and source code management. Other desirable skills include experience with Python and R and, most importantly, openness to learning new technologies.

BS degree in Computer Science or related discipline is required; plus at least 3 years of development experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Some background in biology will be helpful and a strong desire to contribute to life sciences research is essential. Must have good interpersonal and communications skills; able to work effectively independently and on teams, with a variety of people in a diverse workforce; adaptable to changing work requirements; willing to multi-task; high degree of professional integrity; strong client service orientation.
