Hello

I have a question about using the expired SNP chip of Illumina. According to Illumina, we must use chips within a year, but is there anyone who uses these chips after expiration?? how much of the quality of the chips decline after the expiration???

thanks all.

How old are the chips that you have? Illumina may only offer support in the time prior to expiry, after which you are 'on your own' if anything bad happens.

One problem with old arrays is that the probe sequences and other [non-specific] reagents may have degraded, meaning less strong or no binding affinity. This is really a technical question that should be asked to Illumina, though, or on SeqAnswers.

Here is one study on the Affymetrix U133a: Evaluation of gene expression data generated from expired Affymetrix GeneChip® microarrays using MAQC reference RNA samples

They found no issues using these arrays 4+ years after expiry.

Thank you for your response, It has been only one year. So it seems that we will not have a problem. I posted this issue on SeqAnswers and I have not received an answer yet. I will email Illumina so that I can feel comfortable.
