Position Description:
Are you interested in developing and standardizing pipelines for metagenomic analyses of complex microbial communities? Are you interested in disseminating workflows to different research labs to standardize and streamline microbiome analyses? Do you like working with multidisciplinary groups to understand how an animal’s microbiome can impact phenotype? USDA-ARS has a training opportunity through ORISE to gain experience with development of software pipelines for metagenome analysis and pipeline implementation on HPC clusters. In addition, the trainee will lead analysis of analysis of swine intestinal metagenome data to further understanding of microbiome function. ARS Office/Lab and Location: A postdoctoral research opportunity is available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), National Animal Disease Center located in Ames, Iowa.
Qualifications: The qualified candidate should have received a doctoral degree in a relevant field.
Preferred skills:
- Some experience in Unix.
- Experience in at least one programming language (C/C++, Python, Java) preferred.
- Strong communication skills and writing ability
- Basic interest in agriculture research and development of approaches for data analysis of diverse sample types
