I am looking for a website / slide / figure that provide the list or statistics of completed genome projects and metagenomics projects (as of 2010). As indicated in an earlier discussion at BioStar, GOLD provides some statistics, but only up to 2009 and no information is indexed about metagenomics projects.

List of eukaryotic genome projects, list of prokaryotic and list of metagenomics.

You need "Released" column for eu, pro and meta. And "Status" column for eu.

With this data you can make figures with up-to-date information.

Edit: I've added all raw numbers. You can use them. "Unk" means that release data is absent (in progress, terminated or smth else).

The NCBI Genome resource is one good place to look; they lists of genome and metagenome projects, both those completed and those in progress. I do not know how complete their lists are, though.

You can see the links at IMG/M.

In the left navigation area you can access a bunch of stats they have on various projects.

Thanks Mary. Do you think NCBI numbers are including IMG numbers or viceversa ?

I don't know for sure. I know JGI is doing huge numbers of these, so they would have them in hand on their site. They'd get submitted to NCBI--but might be at JGI first. But I don't know for sure, and I don't know what kind of lag there might be.

Hi, just a quick question relating to this... how do we submit 'in progress' genome projects to the entrez genome project's list?

if a project is listed as ongoing, would it not prevent institutes from sequencing the same/similar strains by error?

Hi Neo, You may please post this as separate question - It is an important question that need more attention.
