ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF NGS BIOINFORMATICS
We are currently looking for an Associate Director of NGS Bioinformatics to join our team.
Next generation sequencing is having a major impact on cancer research today. And in the future, it will likely directly impact cancer patient care. Your work will likely lead to important new discoveries waiting for us in this unprecedented data, and the delivery of these results to our customers may impact cancer patient care in important and meaningful ways.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work directly with the Chief Technology Officer to help lead the work of a talented team of scientists and bioinformatics experts in developing the infrastructure to process the growing number of NGS cancer samples available today
- Provide advice and direction in forming this new venture within our company
- Design, prototype, test, and implement data pipelines that execute best-practice NGS data processing techniques, with an early emphasis on somatic gene mutations and gene fusions from Illumina and SOLiD, DNASeq and RNASeq
- Collaborate with vendors to architect large-scale, cloud-based architectures capable of processing thousands of paired tumor-normal DNASeq exome samples, and tumor RNASeq samples, comprising hundreds of terabytes of raw data
- Create and implement a plan to process batches of patient samples using a standard job scheduling / grid engine package on the deployed cluster
- Participate in the development of quality control and validation strategies, leading to the continual improvement of our processing pipelines and methods
- Written and verbal presentation of scientific data results and methods
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven understanding of next generation sequencing technologies and data processing in human cancer genomics
- Strong computational skills, particularly in large-scale data management, parallel processing architectures, Linux system administration, and cloud-based computing
- Prior leadership experience a plus
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Previous bioinformatics and scientific programming experience necessary; experience with Spotfire, and Pipeline Pilot a plus
- Publications are highly valued
COMPANY CULTURE: Compendia's culture reflects the intellectual inquisitiveness and diverse abilities of our people. It is a place where advanced technology intersects with cutting edge scientific research: where an ad hoc meeting might be about next-generation sequencing, a new statistical analysis technique, a new dynamic visualization approach, a new application of ontology-based knowledge representation to search techniques, or an exciting new cancer research discovery. We are looking for people who are excited by such an environment, who like to learn, and who will contribute their own unique perspectives to our collective understanding of how we can cure cancer with genomic data.
