PLoS Biology apparently has a new section called "Cool Tools" and OneZoom is the first one of these to be highlighted. This is a viewer to zoom and explore evolutionary relationships among species using a fractals strategy. It's very slick.

Here I attempt to embed their "tutorial" video, but I'll edit if that fails. Not sure how I'm supposed to do that yet. But I'll learn. In the meantime I have done a larger post on this, and also included a second video that is more about the project overview here: http://blog.openhelix.eu/?p=14074

EDIT by Mary: Ok, I'm stumped: Istvan--what do I do for an embed? Tried both old and new style.

Really cool software. I agree completely with the quote:

we all too often constrain ourselves to the “paper paradigm”—the practice of displaying data in ways that are optimized for printing on paper.

There are just way too many informative ways to interpret big data for us to be constrained by simple static figures.
