Based on the results of the polling and other feedback the post closing option has been re-enabled. One restriction is that a post can only be closed after the moderator that wants to close the post has left a comment.
There will be a longer description on the closed post page that describes what post closing means and what the user can do next. For an example of post closing see:
ask for a script to carry out reverse complement of DNA sequence
A new post type has also been introduced called Poll listed among the post types on the New Post page. A Poll is a special post type with the following restrictions:
- only the poll author may add answers to the poll, these will serve as choices that other users may upvote to indicate their preference
- the only content that users other than the author may add to a poll are comments attached directly to the top level post
- votes on a poll do not contribute to the reputation
does your score increase with the votes ? :-)
no they won't, votes on Polls will show up in the vote sidebar and in the upvote history but do not affect the user score
FWIW, Stack overflow is revamping how they deal with closing posts: http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2013/06/the-war-of-the-closes/
heh, they raise the same points that I do, closing just does not do what it is intended
