I am currently involved in a project which deals with storage and maintaining sequencing data. As different user access this fileshare, I would like to introduce a small metadata system to avoid chaos. The meta data may include the sequence's source, confidentiality information and some description fields.

As I don't want to reinvent the wheel, I would like to ask you if you know already existing meta models describing information as described above. Thank you for your information!

One of the starting points (or the system to clone) is to use a system large databases such as SRA or ENA are using. Here's a link to data submission protocol to SRA: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK47529/ - you can find human readable descriptions there, plus links to details and templates. While it might sound like an overkill, please consider that many projects end up submitting data to SRA/ENA anyway.
