I was a postdoc on the Gene Expression database at Jax years ago, and Bar Harbor is a great place to be. The winters are a little long..but the summers are worth it.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER I / SOFTWARE ENGINEER II
The Mouse Genome Informatics Group at The Jackson Laboratory has openings for two full time entry- or intermediate-level scientific software engineers. You will join an interdisciplinary project at the forefront of bioinformatics resources, which provides comprehensive, high-quality, integrated information on the laboratory mouse to the worldwide biomedical research community. Applicants must be energetic, imaginative, and ready to participate in a highly interactive environment combining biology and software engineering.
One position will focus primarily on release engineering: automating continuous integration builds, releases, and other back end processes. The second position will join an existing Scrum team and work on a variety of database back end and web front end projects.
Applicants should have training or experience as a database developer. Specific technical skills required include Unix/Linux, shell scripting, Java, SQL (preferably PostgreSQL), and HTML. For the second position JSP, JavaScript/AJAX, CSS are also required. Knowledge of any of the following would be a plus: Python, Sybase, Solr, Spring MVC, Scrum/Agile, Jenkins, Ant. Knowledge of biology or willingness to learn is important. Applicants should have good organization and communication skills and be comfortable working in a team environment. B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent training/experience required.
