Hi All,

New bioinformatics course Bioinformatics Algorithms (Part 1) starts on Oct 21st 2013 at Cousera

https://class.coursera.org/bioinformatics-001/class/index

And a course on Data Analysis using R is already going on at Coursera!! And it's very good good course for freshers (like me) :) :) First assignment deadline is finished but still worth to give a try!! Course name is: Computing for Data Analysis on Coursera.

Thanks

Nice. I've already signed up for the algorithms one after seeing Pevzner was teaching it.

I'm new to Cousera, so just a quick question: I would like to sign up, but I'm not sure I'll be able to follow up everything including quizzes and all that... Is it possible or I'm better to wait to have full time?

the cynical person in me says that you should sign up right away - who knows what the future holds, and once the novelty around MOOCs gets tempered I expect the quality of interaction among students/faculty to change

Every one is new at least for the once !! So don't worry :) In fact I logged in for 3-4 Courses and I was just able to complete only one but no fees for going through the videos and PPT's so can enjoy that !! And another course: Computing for Data Analysis is going on..I am hoping to finish that too this time :) :)

Not specifically bioinformatics, but since python is widely used in bioinformatics I figured some may find this course useful.

I just completed (audited) this course, and found it to be an excellent survey of some of the many Bioconductor tools available. Many of the bioinformatics problems that I would normally solve, with command-line tools and much data-wrangling, could have been easily tackled had I taken this course earlier. It's a huge amount of information that won't stick immediately in my head, but now I have the lecture videos and notes to refer back to as a resource.

Warning : Give yourself plenty of time to complete the quizzes! Downloading the datasets alone takes a while, then remembering which lectures/packages are relevant can be time-consuming too.
