Hi there,

I'm having trouble installing SRA Tool Kits and I am a complete newbie. I have gotten as far as setting the path directory using this manual https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/factsheets/HowTo_LocalSRABlast_StepByStep.pdf. The problem I face is that when I modify the path environmental variable it all works great and when I run the -vdb-config -i it works. Until I close ubuntu and reopen it and I have to redo this command. Am I doing something wrong? Does this command for changing the path need to be done every time, or is this normal? $ export PATH=$PATH:~/sratoolkit.2.11.0-ubuntu64/bin

vdb-config -i not working

You can add that export command to your .bashrc (or equivalent file for your shell) so it works each time. BTW: vdb-config should need to be done only one time. I assume you are doing that to designate a temp dir for the downloads.

Suggestion: Please don't post screenshots of terminal lines. You can simply copy/paste relevant lines and use 101010 button in edit window to format them as code.

Thank you! Just to show much of a newbie I am, I had to google what .bashrc is, I have found out how to do that. I really appreciate the help, gotta start somewhere!

Have a good day!
