Hi there,

I have a tree file (RAxML.bipartitions) and I simply want to plot characters/symbols at the terminal nodes depending on whether a certain trait is present, absent, or non-applicable for each taxa. I'm not trying to do ancestral state reconstruction. I was hoping I could do something like this in Mesquite using a character matrix I made, but I can't find any information on simply plotting whether a taxa has a certain trait or not using a character matrix. This seems so trivial and I would much prefer not to have to resort to doing this manually in Illustrator.

I wish I could offer more detail, but what I'm trying to do is actually quite simple. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks!
