Hello. I am a medical graduate and I am doing my master in Bioinformatics. I would like to do a paid thesis in a good lab, ideally Machine Learning applied on a biomedical topic (maybe anemias). How could I find paid opportunities? Thank you a lot in advance!
I've never heard of anyone getting paid for their thesis work. You could emulate getting paid by applying for a scholarship, I suppose.
Hmm I am having a scholarship for my master..Any lab to suggest? (Thank you a lot for your time!)
Well the lab would depend on what countries your scholarship covers. You mentioned in another comment that you're in/from Greece. Does your scholarship also cover the rest of the EU?
The scholarship is not enough for the thesis. That is the reason why ideally I would like to find a paid project.
Ah. Well that sucks. I am sorry to hear that.
I suppose all you can do in this case is really contact people, explain your situation, and see what it brings you. I'd apply to all institutions of interest across Europe.
Thank you a lot for your advice! Any good institution to suggest? (ideally in Switzerland/Germany/France/Spain)
I cannot comment on Switzerland/France/Spain, but in Germany, the only places I can think of that might be able to pay you would be one of the Max Planck institutes or EMBL Heidelberg. The universities would have plenty of nice bioinformatics projects, but they usually don't have the funding to pay a masters student for what is essentially obligatory work (on the student's part).
Thank you a lot!:) I will check it.
Plenty of students get paid in the UK for Thesis work
Nice to hear that! Any recommendations about how to find these opportunities?
Dundee University is known for Biology, but isn't a Russell Group University. Russell Groups are a prestige known for research
Thank you a lot! I will check it.
I'm not sure I'd say 'plenty'. My masters was paid as it was part of an integrated PhD program, but paid Masters programs, much less just paid thesis work is certainly a small minority AFAIK.
if you haven't already, look into paid positions in your university such as Teaching Assistant jobs. Depending on the university, some of these might include tuition reimbursement.
in Greece unfortunately there is not this opportunity...
