The Centro de Genética Preditiva e Preventiva (CGPP, www.cgpp.eu), a service provider of medical genetics diagnostics of the Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology (IBMC, www.ibmc.up.pt), at the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S, www.i3s.up.pt), is opening a position for a bioinformatician in order to (1) support the development of massively parallel sequencing (“next-generation sequencing”, NGS) in the context of genetic testing; and (2) develop and implement automated workflows and tools to optimize and/or improve the analysis of NGS data. The successful candidate will also participate in the (3) development of applications for laboratory management system and medical consultations (including telemedicine services). We are looking for a candidate with strong teamwork spirit and good communication skills.
Minimum prerequisites: The candidate must have (1) a MSc in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related fields; (2) knowledge and experience in the Python programming language and, additionally, at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Perl, PHP, C# or C++; (3) previous experience working in Unix environments, namely proficiency using a Linux command line and shell script programming.
Preferential conditions: (1) Experience in implementation of genetic variants databases or other related databases with biomedical applications; (2) previous experience in NGS data processing; (3) proven experience in the following programming languages: Python, Java and PHP; (4) PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field.
