I'm using the MEGAX GUI to find genetic distances between two populations, but have a question about the interpretation of the results. I used their submenu to define two groups (OW and NW), and then selected Distance->Compute Between Group Mean Distance to... well, calculate distances. It's really quite intuitive. The results (photo attached) are displayed in a 2x2 matrix, but what is puzzling me is that the two comparisons between OW and NW have different values associated with each other - .0681 in the lower left and .0122 in the upper right, corresponding to ~6.8% and 1.2% divergence respectively.
This might be an obvious question, but does anyone know how to interpret these disparate results? To my understanding, the same comparison (and therefore same value) should be being made in each of those cells.
