By my rough calculation going back a couple of months, Biostars is adding new users at a rate of 1000 per three weeks. That means some time in early November a user with a number 100,000 will be added to the system. Will the unsuspecting Biostars member be somehow acknowledged, Oprah-style or otherwise?
I will use this opportunity to thank Istvan Albert and all the foundational members, and especially those who still stick around and perform an often thankless job of sorting through all the posts and answering questions. You are a testament to the power of human ingenuity and altruism.
If user 100k turns out to be a spammer, I will happily take over the responsibility of driving away the grand prize.
Like I said, altruistic to the core.
Second prize: Two Teslas
Given the rate of spammer accounts, I daresay most of these 1000 new users are spammers. The site is growing quite well, like you say. Thank you for being here and keeping us straight, Mensur!
What's the growth rate--and projected arrival data of the 100,000th user--corrected for spam accounts?
spam accounts are deleted on a daily basis, thus would not produce new entries.
