I am trying to understand why this Entrez search is returning unexpected records:
SANT*[Text Word] AND Ectocarpus[Organism]
I think the search is case insensitive.
That should return records containing surnames like "Santos", "SANTOS", "Santolaria". Or place names like "Santa Monica", "SANTOS", "Santillana", "Bahia de Todos os Santos"
Once I sort the list by sequence length, this is the first record I see: MN181444.1 . But I can't figure out why it is in the list:
Of course it contains the organism name "Ectocarpus", but I couldn't find the string "SANT" anywhere in the text.
Are you sure
[Text Word]
is a valid Entrez search term? I don't see it listed in the official table.GenoMax
[Text Word]
is in third position counting upwards from bottom of Table 1 in your link. You can also find it if you click the "All fields" selection list in the advanced search form: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore/advanced
And it works. In fact I am finding most of the records I am looking for. I just don't understand why some (apparently) unrelated records appear in search results.
I see. It is possible that either there is metadata fields that have those words that are not visible or there may simply be some errors. Help for that term does say
