Hello.
After realizing that installing Ensembl-vep on Windows requires installing multiple other programs, I tried using the Ensembl Virtual Machine. I followed the instructions at http://www.ensembl.org/info/data/virtual_machine.html, and when I ran the virtual machine I got the following error message:
I tried restarting the computer and got the same error.
I found solutions but they either require entering credentials, which I don't have, or changing the settings: increasing CPUs and and memory. I tried that solution and got the same message.
Hello,
What is your exact virtual box version and windows version? (to check windows version you can do Win+R and type there "winver" (without quotes) and press enter)
The VirtualBox version is Version 6.1.30 and I'm using Windows 10.
Would you please check if you have enough RAM (4Gb) and disk space (20 Gb) at least?
@langziv Thanks for your reply.
As per Mira's message, please ensure you have enough system resources for the VM to run.
Also, you may want to change the way the (virtual) network adapter is attached to your network:
Please, do let us know if it's working or not.
Thank you both.
Eventually I thought that using the VirtualBox would be prone to more problems then using "Ubuntu on Windows". My experience with virtual machines is not very good, so I was deterred from using it once I sensed I'm facing a similar issue to the one I had before.
