Hello,

I was looking my mutations using the variant location in ClinVar (ncbi). But I found that for some variants no RS number was available in the gene location. Can someone tell me why it was like that?? it means that my variants have not been reported yet? or some other reason.

Thank you

The rs ID is a number used for to identify a specific SNP. When a new SNP is identified, a report of the given SNP is sent to the dbSNP database and it is assigned with an unique rsID. If a SNP cannot be annotated with a rsID, means that it is not a known SNP (i.e. it doesn't have an rsID yet).
