The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in its Biomedical Data Science Group at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine:
Internship on the Experimental Study of Regulatory Genes in Alzheimer's Disease (M/F)
• 12-month contract, 40 hours/week (full time)
• Monthly gross allowance: 850 EUR

For a project on the experimental characterization of regulatory genes with a potential involvement in Alzheimer's disease (AD), we are recruiting a Master level student interested to carry out phenotypic and molecular analyses of candidate AD genes in a zebrafish model of AD. The genes have been derived from previous single-cell analyses of an AD mouse model mouse and will include investigations of inhibition and activation effects for the chosen genes using small molecule compounds and knockdown and over-expression experiments performed in zebrafish embryos. The project will be implemented as a collaboration between the Biomedical Data Science (BDS) group and the Acquatic Aquatic Platform at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) of the University of Luxembourg.
The student will be affiliated with both the Acquatic Platform and the BDS group of Prof. Enrico Glaab and will be co-supervised by Dr. Maria Lorena Cordero Maldonado, the manager of the Acquatic Aquatic Platform. The student will work closely with both groups to characterize candidate Alzheimer genes in an interdisciplinary fashion, using combined phenotypic and molecular studies and computational modeling analyses.
Your Role
• Carry out research on Alzheimer candidate genes
• Perform phenotypic characterization studies in a zebrafish Alzheimer model
• Carry out gene expression analyses for the zebrafish model together with local collaborators
• Contribute to the computational analysis of the experimental data
• Actively work with the collaborators to integrate the obtained results
Your Profile
• Master in molecular biology, biochemistry, systems biology, or related discipline
• Experience in experimental lab work and molecular biology techniques (e.g. cloning, PCR) cell culture is expected
• Strong interest in bioinformatics analyses will be an advantage
• Excellent working knowledge of English is required
• Excellent organization skills, data management and precise project documentation
• Maintenance of a clean laboratory environment
• The candidate will be integrated into a collaborative environment and needs to have excellent communication skills
