This is not related to bioinformatics. You just need a linux tutorial.

a gtf folder I downloaded from NCBI

You downloaded a folder? How'd you do that?

on my desktop into linux

Are they the same machine? Are you talking about the virtual "Desktop" location or a desktop computer and a separate linux computer?

You need to be a lot clearer. Plus, Google this stuff, it has very little to do with bioinformatics specifically.

Adding to Ram's sensible questions:

  • What is it you're trying to do once you've moved the files?
  • Why do you believe the files need to be "moved to Linux"?

Use file manager (named files) to do that. Do not use CLI given unfamiliarity with CLI.

Skip "downloaded to my desktop" step, use your linux to download. Read about wget, curl, etc.
