Hi Friends, I have 20 patient samples. I need to find out the serotype of Streptococcus Pneumoniae in each sample. Especially the vaccine serotypes. Because of certain limitations, I can't perform Multiplex PCR to do that. Can I do MLST to identify serotypes? I understand correctly MLST uses to identify sequence types. In that sense, is there a way to use sequence types to identify Streptococcus Pneumoniae serotypes?
To answer this question, have a read of the original MLST paper: https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/micro/10.1099/00221287-144-11-3049#tab2 and have a look at the pubmlst site: https://pubmlst.org/organisms/streptococcus-pneumoniae
From my quick reading, the answer is no.
