I work on three mammalian species to find possible introgression between them. For this, I use Dsuite program. I used Dtrios option and also Dinvestigate for my work. Now I want to define a threshold for fdm parameter to identify the putative introgressed region on the genome of each trio. searching through the published articles on the subject left me confused. I find an article that seems can help me but the exact meaning of what has been done in this article is not completely clear to me.

The following two sentences are related to the mentioned article, which I do not understand the exact meaning of. I would appreciate it if someone could help me understand it

  1. For each trio, we defined putative introgressed regions (pIRs) (Dataset S1) as the top fdM windows that summed to the genomic proportion estimated by the f4-ratio.

  2. We defined a pIR as windows with highest x% of fdM values, where x was determined for each trio by the f4-ratio estimate
