working with .sra-lite files

Hi, i'm seeing more and more this .sra-lite files which supposedly have a simplified base score. However, I only see reads with all qualities set to ?, what does this mean? what if I want to trim based on score? are these already trimmed? why?

I think this is a change for the worse what ncbi did. Saving in space doesn't justify loosing information. clearly who decided this is some weirdo at ncbi.
