Hello Biostars

I have a set of shortlisted genes, and I want to project them on the CCLE gene expression data and rank which cell lines have an overall highest expression for this specific gene list.

So far I have extracted the expression values of these genes across all cell lines and my first guess was to just calculate the sum of normalised expression values for each cell line and rank cell lines based on that but I'm sure there are more statistically sound methods to achieve this. Any ideas of what method or package I can use to more systematically do this?
