Important Announcement for Aspera Users: The NCBI update is complete as of February 1, 2023. If you have not yet done so, please download the latest version of Aspera-Connect to continue connecting to NCBI servers using Aspera.
PeterC_NCBI If memory serves me right IBM no longer includes the public keys required in the latest aspera downloads. Is this going to impact this upgrade since you are asking people to download the client from IBM.
GenoMax Let me check on that. I'll get back to you.
GenoMax Sorry for the delay in getting back. Had to check with a few people. There are two scenarios: 1) using Aspera to access the NCBI public download site (https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/faspftp/), and 2) using Aspera to upload data for GenBank/SRA submissions.
For accessing NCBI's public download site:
The new version of the Aspera Connect does provide a key, but it has a different name and is in a different location. You need to use a special fixed pass phrase to use this key. We support both old key and new key, but at some point will have to remove the old key from our authosized_keys file on our Aspera servers.
Here are some example command lines using the new key. These assume that Aspera Connect is installed in your home directory under ~/.aspera/ location:
For GenBank/SRA submissions:
For Aspera command-line upload for submissions, we provide a key file for download with our Aspera instructions. You access it here: https://submit.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/subs/sra/
Click on the "Aspera Command-Line upload" accordion and you will see a line "Get the key file." Our plan is to update this key file from time to time, as indicated in the text there.
