(The clickbait title is meant to be a joke.)
Just came across this question on Stackoverflow which was apparently cross-posted here and there at the same time.
The difference in results is _stark_. Lots of engagement here, great answers. On StackOverflow: nothing.
Just thought this would be interesting anecdote for you guys here. I should spend more time here!
Question here: how to edit fasta header Question there: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/75623673/how-to-edit-fasta-header
SO with bioinformatics tag has very limited traffic and userbase in my experience, same as the dedicated bioinformatics SE while biostars is one of the most prominent bioinformatics community, so that is expected :)
Would actually be interesting to see a direct quantitative comparison, also including Reddit which afaik has quite a userbase.
This sounds like a nice _experiment_. Randomly crosspost questions - without telling anyone that you're running that experiment ;)
But need to create burner accounts for each platform for each post to make it less noticeable.
In fairness, The Fasta Question(TM) usually gets a bit of a hard time here these days too because its by far the most asked question, which means you instantly know the OP didn't expend any of their own effort trying to find an answer.
For better and/or for worse, we have a much more laissez-faire attitude to moderation here so they tend to have an easier time of it here.
