I am just getting started learning the R language for bioinformatics. First I want to install R and R Studio on my laptop. I read somewhere that the installer package needs to be the right one for my computer.

How do I install the right installer? My laptop is 8GB RAM and Intel dual core i5 processor.

I know this is a very basic question. Please advise.

Just go to Posit website and download the latest version of R PKG and Rstudio DMG files:

https://posit.co/download/rstudio-desktop/

Currently it would be something like this:

https://cran.rstudio.com/bin/macosx/big-sur-x86_64/base/R-4.3.0-x86_64.pkg https://download1.rstudio.org/electron/macos/RStudio-2023.03.0-386.dmg

You can install R and RStudio via Homebrew using the Terminal.

Subsequently, you can keep your packages updated with: brew update && brew upgrade
