Hello, my background is in computer science. I have studied a bit of biology on my own, but nothing deep. I would like to find a book or books that can help me get a good sense of the wide world of genes to help me understand the big picture. I'd like to understand things like: are there useful ways to categorize "types" of genes in terms of what they do? Which genes are relevant for drugs? Which genes are well-understood / exotic? I realize this might be a bit general, but I'm looking for something that doesn't focus too much on just inheritance. Right now I don't have any mental model of how to categorize genes, so how could I go about learning this from a high level?
