Hi everyone,

From the GENCODE gtf file, I noticed that there are multiple ensembl transcript IDs for one gene ID and and one ensembl transcript id may have different versions (different values after the decimal).

There are different transcript isoforms of one gene (due to alternative splicing or alternative TSS) and I am confused whether different transcript IDs represent different isoforms or different versions of a transcript represent different isoforms.

Reading Ensembl ID description, I understand that both are representing different transcript isoforms. If someone can please clarify the difference? What different transcript IDs of one gene ID means and what different versions of one transcript ID means? Which one is the representation of different transcript isoforms?

Thank you

"different transcript IDs represent different isoforms." the different versions only come with different versions of gtf file.
