Problem with BLAST

I am performing an alignment, by BLAST, of some viral sequences (that correspond to a specific gene) against a reference sequence. But the alignment result is exactly the same as the reference sequence.

That could be happening?

I would appreciate any help

We should all have the same problem you are having. Yes, a gene or protein can be identical to the reference sequence.
