Hi there,

I'm currently working on annotating variants with VEP in Genomics England and navigating some challenges with limited internet access. Do you happen to know about any major differences between various VEP versions?

On another note, I'm in the process of making VEP v110 work for my analysis. Any insights on whether it's worth investing a good amount of time in this?

Thanks a bunch.

If you want to judge for yourself, the differences between the different versions of VEP (the tool) are listed here:

https://github.com/Ensembl/ensembl-vep/releases

If you are struggling with internet access, once VEP is installed, you can also use cached files for annotation: https://www.ensembl.org/info/docs/tools/vep/script/vep_cache.html#pre

Thank you for the link! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Yes, I am using -offline but in the database, only certain websites are whitelisted and not all VEP versions available as modules. Second attempt at downloading the indexed cache.

I've always used VEP offline. What modules are you running into problems with?
