We have recently launched a new Research Topic at Frontiers in Endocrinology, Systems Endocrinology section.
A search of the literature on ‘math modelling of endocrine systems’ shows this topic to be dominated by models of glucose regulation and dysregulation, the endocrine pancreas, liver, fat, and their associated metabolic subsystems. Models and modelling of the other endocrine regulatory systems are our focus here, i.e. thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, gonadal, pituitary, and hypothalamus neuroendocrine systems. Cytokine regulation models and modelling methods are also included. Cytokines (chemokines, interferons, interleukins, lymphokines, and tumour necrosis factors) are the small immunomodulating cell-signalling molecules involved in autocrine, paracrine, and endocrine signalling.
We especially encourage contributions that address the regulatory interactions among these systems and their hormonal signals.

Take it from someone who has hosted both a successful and a failed research topic: these deadlines are unrealistic. I am guessing you are probably pushed into these dates by the editors - I was - but you can always push back. They need you to host the RT, not the other way around.
Summary deadline is less than 3 months away. That excludes pretty much everyone who already doesn't have at least 50% of the work done. Not only that, it is psychologically discouraging to deal with a deadline that is that close when we don't have to. I am not in your field of research, but even if this was more appropriate for my own work I would instantly cross it off my mental list with such a close deadline. The submission deadline seems a bit more reasonable, but 8 months also excludes people who don't already have at least a good deal of preliminary data. Also, most people in the northern hemisphere don't work their hardest during the summer, so this is much closer than it appears. Again, I am sure that ambitious editors want this RT to happen this year and will probably resist, but I'd ask for both deadlines to be pushed at least a couple of months into the future.
You are right, the deadline is a bit short. I have successfully managed two other Research Topics, but we had to extend the deadlines for both.
