Seurat object reductions (PCA, UMAP,..) after subsetting data

Dear all,

It would be fantastic if anyone could answer me this:

So basically I wonder what happens to reductions I have performed on a Seurat object after I subset the Seurat object (e.g. based e.g. on cell types).

Example: I have my Seurat object with 5 cell types. I applied the commands RunPCA and RunUMAP. The results are stored in the reductions. Now I subset my Seurat object only into 1 cell type. Still I see information in the reductions.

Question: These reductions are the "old" reductions with all cell types I believe or? So I should run RunPCA & RunUMAP again for this 1 celltype Seurat object to get it only for this or? Also I realised if I do it the other way round (merging to Seurat objects) that all commands & reductions are lost then. So I guess that makes sense since it wouldnt apply anymore for the merged object. Why are they not deleted the other way round then (when subsetting)?

Thank you!
