Not a bioinformatics questions, but I have a healthy human esophageal single-cell data at hand I am trying to understand the epithelial types in this data. I am not very familiar with this tissue, and I need to know what are the epithelial cells subtypes.

I have searched a lot for an answer but I found none. I see Suprabasal, apical, basal, and more .. but I don't understand are Suprabasal and apical actual subtypes ? take a look in this paper for example.

Can anyone help with this ? thanks !

Exactly. Figuring out and understanding papers is not really on-topic here. It's something you should discuss with your PI and peers.
