The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute was established in 2007 as the sixth research institute of The University of Queensland. The aim of the Institute is to develop a better understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of disease, and to translate that understanding into practical outcomes for patients. Based at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital teaching campus in Brisbane, the Institute has almost 270 researchers and students who work closely with clinicians in the areas of cancer, immunology and genomic medicine. UQDI is the largest partner in TRI, and is building major programs in Immunology, Cancer and Genomic Medicine research, with a particular focus on research aimed at development of new treatments. The role

The research groups at TRI , Cancer, Immunology and Genomic Medicine generate a large amount of genomics, proteomics and expression data and require an experienced Bioinformatician to assist in the analysis of these experiments. The successful appointee will be required to liaise with clinical and wet-lab researchers to understand the goals of their research, assist in the experiment design and perform cutting edge analysis of the data. The appointee will be an active member of research collaborations and will provide innovate solutions and assist in the interpretation of findings.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD or Masters in bioinformatics, or in a relevant area of computer science, biostatistics, or computation based science with at least 12 months experience in bioinformatics (considerably more for SRO). Applicants must possess a track record in bioinformatics and ability to analyse and manipulate very large data sets. Applicants must also possess good interpersonal and communications skills, excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, and have the capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months at Academic level A or B, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

For Level A, the remuneration package will be in the range of $74,254 - $79,708 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $86,877 - $93,259 p.a.).

For Level B, the remuneration package will be in the range of $83904 - $99635 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $98,167 - $116,573 p.a.).
